Get Your Glow on the Nutshell Way: How to Incorporate Sustainability into Your Skincare Routine
Are you ready to take your skincare routine to the next level with some sustainable practices? Let's do this!
First things first, when it comes to choosing skincare products, think green! Look for brands that use natural and organic ingredients, are cruelty-free, and free of harmful chemicals. Not only will you be doing your skin a favor, but you'll also be doing your part for the environment. It's a win-win situation!
Now, let's talk about quantity over quality. You don't need to slather on a whole jar of moisturizer to get that dewy glow. Less is more! Plus, using less product means you'll save money and reduce waste. So, put down that extra scoop of cream and admire your beautiful, glowing skin!
Next up, let's talk about packaging. Refillable or reusable containers are ideal. Don't just toss out your empty containers – refill them or find a new use for them. Get creative and use that empty serum bottle as a bud vase or a tiny succulent planter. The possibilities are endless!
Feeling adventurous? Why not try making your own skincare products? Since we are nuts over coconuts, we suggest trying coconut oil! It can be used as a base for DIY skincare products like face masks, scrubs, and lip balms. Mix it with other natural ingredients like honey, avocado, or sugar for a hydrating and refreshing at-home treatment. It's like being a mad scientist but for your face. Check out our favorite DIY recipe below!
Last but not least, recycle, recycle, recycle! Don't let your skincare containers end up in a landfill. Make sure to recycle them properly. And if you're feeling extra eco-conscious, look for brands that use recycled materials in their packaging.
So, there you have it! Incorporating sustainability into your daily skincare routine is easy (and good for the environment too!). Let's make the world a more beautiful and sustainable place, one skincare routine at a time!
Whipped Green Tea-Infused Coconut Oil Moisturizer Recipe
—Double boiler (or a heat-proof jar and small saucepan)
—Cheesecloth
—Electric mixer
—1 cup organic coconut oil
—¼ cup loose organic green tea
Instructions
Step 1 | Melt oil
Step 2 | Add green tea. Stir in the green tea, cover, and simmer on the lowest heat setting for 30 minutes.
Step 3 | Strain infused oil Let the oil cool slightly, but not enough that the coconut oil hardens. Then strain the tea from the oil with cheesecloth.
Step 4 | Cool in the freezer. Place the oil in the freezer for 10–20 minutes until the mixture is almost solid (like a loose gel consistency when you stir it).
Step 5 | Whip until frothy. To get the whipped butter consistency, use an electric mixer for 3–5 minutes until the texture turns creamy. Place in an upcycled jar of choice!
If you live in a hot climate, you can store it in the refrigerator if needed to keep coconut oil from melting. As long as you strain the tea out really well, the infused coconut oil should last 3–6 months.
